IF she talked to us nicely and told us earlier that we should sign up on a paper on their desk, we would gladly do so. Two of my friends directly approached one of the waiter, and ask her if she can serve us, but she started to be talking really rude. So, we decided to get a table ourselves, since there are three empty tables. We tried to call on them for several more times, but same thing happened. At first, we want to ask the waiters if we should get a ticket to wait or what. but when I entered the store, I saw 3 empty desks, and a few people sitting around. So that was my first time to go to this Hot Pot City. Nothing fancy-more of a hole in the wall with nice people and decent food. I made two trips to the food bar-and that was plenty. You are welcome to eat as much as you want, but they frown on you throwing a lot away, so make sure you only take what you will eat. The idea is you put the raw items on a plate, put them in the hot pot, then fish them out into your bowl, and then use your chopsticks to dip the cooked items into your sauce. I didn't add the noodles until everything else was cooked (so they would have the most flavor). Veggies, other meats, and frozen items took longer to cook, but I was careful not to overcook them. I fished the thinly sliced beef out first (as it cooked almost immediately). Third stop: grab a plate and fill it (choices were seitan, medium tofu, freeze-dried tofu, onions, cabbage, cucumber, seaweed, kale, corn on the cob, potatoes, bean threads, broccoli, noodles, fish balls, meat balls, scallop, fake crab, beef, pork, chicken, fish, fried and frozen wontons, and a couple of things I didn't recognize).īack at the table: I dropped veggies and meat into the boiling broth. I mixed fish sauce, soy, vinegar, sriracha, garlic, ginger, and onions. Second stop: Make your own sauce area (choices are vinegar, sesame oil, ponzu sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, peanut sauce, onions, sugar, salt, fish sauce, onions, garlic/jalapenos). My place setting included chopsticks, a bowl, a spoon and a spoon/basket for fishing things out of the broth.įirst stop: Beverage bar (soda/tea/water comes with your meal). I would call it flavorful, but not really spicy. Ma and La in Chinese food are two different kinds of hotness. I asked for the MaLa broth (which was good). had never been there before, I was told to go choose what I wanted in my hot pot. The server assumed I knew what I was doing-and when I said I. It wasn't very busy, and I was directed to sit at the counter-which was quite comfortable. I visited Hot Pot City today at lunch (since it is walking distance from my office).
